KIVA taxes a different base from standard corporate tax, and the 2025/2026 eligibility thresholds widened the pool of companies that can elect it. How to compare the two.
- Real-time invoice reporting
- Pillar Two notification obligations
- How does the social contribution cap on capital income work?
The detail most often missed by companies modelling Hungary purely on the 9% headline rate is the local business tax (HIPA) — up to 2% of net revenue, not profit, levied by the municipality where the company operates. Combined with a small innovation contribution (0.3%, same base), the realistic total tax burden on a profitable Hungarian company sits closer to 9-11%, but a company with thin margins or temporary losses still owes HIPA on revenue, a structural difference from profit-based systems.

What makes it complex in Hungary
- Real-time invoice reporting — — mandatory automated upload of nearly all outgoing invoices to the Hungarian Tax Authority's online system.
- Pillar Two notification obligations — for in-scope multinational groups, with Hungarian-specific filing deadlines distinct from the general CIT calendar.
How does the social contribution cap on capital income work?
The 13% social contribution tax on capital income (such as dividends) applies only until total annual income from work and capital gains reaches 24 times the monthly minimum wage — approximately €20,000 for 2026. Above that threshold, no further social contribution is due on capital income for the year. Employment income itself is not subject to this cap.
Real-time invoice reporting is one of the points HTLC Network handles for clients operating in Hungary, within a single engagement that covers every other country they operate in — executed locally, governed centrally.
In Hungary the scope is: Kft and Zrt incorporation, Hungarian Trade Register filing, and post-formation compliance setup including HIPA registration.
See Company Formation & Entity Setup in Hungary for the full scope, or the Hungary country page for the statutory framework across every service.
